NATIONAL FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT DAY

NATIONAL FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT DAY

Get your calendars, spreadsheets, and pray your sleeper pick doesn't get snatched one spot ahead of you--National Fantasy Football Draft Day will now forever be celebrated on August 21st! Whether you’re drafting in backyards, garages, or the sports bar, millions of leagues around the world can officially celebrate this historic moment, an official holiday by Fantasy Football Players for Fantasy Football Players.

#FantasyFootballDraftDay

Fantasy football draft season is one of the largest sports traditions in the United States—and every August, millions of fans gather with friends, family, coworkers, and rivals to celebrate the unofficial start of football season.

On August 21st, we celebrate the researchers, the risk-takers, the commissioners, and the waiver-wire wizards who make fantasy football season legendary before the first kickoff event happens.

Did you know more people play fantasy football than golf?

It's true! There are over 200 million fantasy football drafts conducted annually.

There are over 60 million fantasy football players in North America, with the average player participating in approximately seven leagues. A game with this many passionate participants deserves its own holiday, and now it finally has one.

National Fantasy Football Draft Day isn't just about winning a trophy or a pot of cash; it’s about the traditions, the rivalries, the group chats, the draft boards, and the millions of people who use sports to stay connected.

And in 2026, the holiday gets even bigger!

From August 20th–22nd, fantasy football fans from around the country will gather at Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, for Draft Nation 2026. This three-day celebration will feature more than 100 fantasy football drafts, live events, league meetups, VIP experiences, and fantasy football fans celebrating one of America's fastest-growing traditions together.

For many fans, fantasy football draft weekend already feels like a national holiday. Now, it officially has a home.

HISTORY BEHIND FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT DAY

National Fantasy Football Draft Day was submitted in 2026 by Fantasy Sports Entertainment & Productions. The National Day Calendar Registrar approved National Fantasy Football Draft Day in 2026. Each year on August 21st, we celebrate one of the most widely celebrated informal traditions in modern American sports culture.

About the Founder of National Fantasy Football Draft Day

Founded in 2026 by Fantasy Sports Hall of Famer Rick Wolf, Sports Industry Stalwart Ed Bunnell, Entrepreneur Ian Ritchie and Popular Sports Executive Bill Enright, who have more than 100 years of combined passion for fantasy football and wanted more recognition for the game they love. They decided to memorialize a day for the best part of fantasy football, the draft! The movement for all fantasy football players to draft on August 21st is on and with the support of a $30B industry, it starts now!
